We are proud of standing up for #Merton residents and fighting against the #ULEZ expansion. Here’s our record of action:
Merton Lib Dems first propose ULEZ expansion in a motion at the February 2019 council meeting, with their Leader proposing an “emissions-based charging scheme.”
In February 2022 we call for the council to write to the Mayor of London to stop the ULEZ expansion to Merton. The Lib Dems insult our efforts to stand up for residents before voting with the Conservatives
In July 2022, we amended a Labour motion to call for the ULEZ expansion to be scrapped and to freeze the GLA precept for the 2023/24 financial year, the Lib Dems did not support our amendment and said it was “shameful” to scrap the ULEZ expansion and freeze the precept
In November 2022, both Liberal Democrat members of the London Assembly voted to expand the ULEZ to Merton, with West Barnes Cllr Bokhari being one of the two Lib Dems to vote it through
In February 2023, we call for the ULEZ consultation to be rerun due to Mayor Khan’s manipulation of the results, as well as for the ULEZ expansion to be halted and for the installation of the ULEZ infrastructure to be refused
The Liberal Democrats amended our motion. They removed all mention of rerunning the consultation, of preventing ULEZ infrastructure from being installed and of investigating the conduct of Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan
Their actions prevented scrutiny of the Labour Mayor of London and allowed the views of Merton residents to be ignored by Labour
We have also asked questions on the ULEZ expansion which the Labour administration have refused to answer. In contrast, the Lib Dems have not bothered to ask a single question on the ULEZ expansion.
We are proud of our record of action for Merton. Ever since Merton Lib Dems first proposed the idea in 2019, both Labour and the Lib Dems have watered down our attempts to stand up for residents and have even acted to stop criticism of Mayor Khan
Only one conclusion can be drawn from the actions of Labour and the Lib Dems; they just don’t care about the damage their ULEZ proposals will cause to residents in Merton, and they cannot be trusted to stand up for our borough.
