Crime in Merton and across London has markedly increased during Sadiq Khan’s time as Mayor of London. The mayor has prioritised vanity projects and neglected the safety of residents in Merton and across Greater London.
Merton Conservatives have promoted working with groups such as Unique Talent to address issues such as teenage gang activity, and we have also called for knife surrender bins to be placed at suitable location in Merton to ensure knives are off the boroughs streets as swiftly as possible.
We welcome the increase in CCTV cameras across the borough, however, there must also be improved lighting, especially in parks and alleys, to ensure that women and girls are safe at night. We also support further engagement with residents on the issues of dog attacks, to ensure everyone can enjoy the boroughs green spaces safely.
The Labour administration must lobby the Labour Mayor of London to reverse his decision to close Wimbledon Police Station and commit to keeping both Wimbledon and Mitcham Police Stations open.
