At the January council meeting, we are calling for Merton Council to increase its work with the private sector and private schools, to support the council’s plans to be London’s Borough of Sport.
Conservative councillors have been working to secure private sector investment to bring Pickleball to Merton. Our ambition is for Merton Council to expand their partnership work with the private sector to bring new sporting opportunities to the borough.
We are also encouraging the council to increase its work with private schools to improve sporting access for state school pupils from across Merton.
We will also highlight the damage done to council finances following the Labour government’s increase in employers’ national insurance contributions. Data from the council shows that after compensation received from the government, Merton will face a £3.8m blackhole.
Additionally, we will question the Labour administration on the future of St Helier Hospital after the Labour government pushed back the construction timetable into the 2030s. We will also call for a common-sense approach to enforcement that does not unnecessarily target residents.
