Dear Merton Labour Party
A letter has been put into circulation this week by Merton Labour claiming that St Helier Hospital is launching a new consultation about closing the hospital.
THIS CLAIM IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE.
I shared your letter with Tim Hamilton, Director of Communications at St Helier’s. He replied to me, “We have no plans to have a consultation on closing St Helier’s Hospital. The (Labour) letter is inaccurate and unhelpful”.
Disappointingly, your literature is endorsed by Siobhain McDonough MP and on behalf of Jerome Neil, your candidate in the upcoming St Helier by-election.
Merton Labour are using St Helier’s hospital as a scaremongering tactic to appeal to voters. I am concerned by the total and utter disregard for the peace of mind and wellbeing of hospital staff and local residents whilst you play this political game.
I would like to request that Merton Labour party retract their letter regarding St Helier Hospital and apologise to staff and residents for the unnecessary worry and stress that this claim would have no doubt caused to a great deal of them.
Yours sincerely
Sue Edwards

"Over the last few days you may have read reports claiming that there are plans for consultation on the closure of St Helier Hospital. These reports are completely inaccurate – there are no plans to close St Helier Hospital...We would like to once again assure you that there are no plans to close either Epsom or St Helier hospitals."
