Merton’s Conservative councillors joined MP for Wimbledon, Stephen Hammond, to sell poppies at Wimbledon train station this morning as part of London Poppy Day (Thursday 3 November).
Councillor Daniel Holden, Hillside Ward Councillor and one of the Conservative poppy sellers said:
“The Royal British Legion does fantastic work supporting former members of our Armed Forces and their families, and it is always a privilege to help out with their fundraising activities in some small way.
“Thanks to all those people at Wimbledon station for donating to this year’s Poppy Appeal. Wearing a poppy is a mark of respect and remembrance for all the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, both here and across the world.”
Stephen Hammond – MP for Wimbledon - said:
I want to thank all the extraordinarily generous Wimbledon commuters we met this morning. It is fantastic to see our whole community come together to recognise the sacrifices members of the armed forces have made and continue to make.”
