Merton Conservatives were busy selling poppies outside both Wimbledon station and Morden tube station during the morning rush today as part of London Poppy Day (Thursday 2 November). London Poppy Day marks the start of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal across the capital.
Councillor Oonagh Moulton, Leader of Merton Conservatives and one of the poppy sellers, said:
“I want to thank all the commuters we met this morning for their generosity in donating to the Poppy Appeal. The Royal British Legion does fantastic work supporting veterans and their families, including here in Merton, and it is a privilege to be able to help with their fundraising each year.
“As a community, we must never forget the men and women of our armed forces who have made and continue to make huge sacrifices for our country and our freedom.”
