Consultation on Morden Leisure Centre
Letter from Mitcham and Morden Conservatives
While we welcome the fact that the Morden Leisure Centre Project is finally moving forward after being stalled by Labour since 2010, we believe that improvements must be made to current plans.
Firstly, we believe that the current design is not in keeping with the Grade Two listed Morden Park House and the Grade One listed St Lawrence Church.
The plans show no design for the annex hall and no location map of perspective.
There is the possibility of glaringly lit football pitches, which local residents have raised with us. There would also be an undoubted impact on residents in Hillcross Avenue.
Finally, the facilities will fall far short of the Sutton Sports Academy, on Angel Hill, Sutton, which is already over subscribed for gymnastics, tennis and football.
The released design consultation has provided inadequate information for a proposed development in one of our Heritage Parks. It is a great shame that Merton could have been a sports and leisure innovator and far more imaginative.
We recommend local residents visit one of the below public consultation and let Merton Council know your thoughts.
