After 50 years of support for the Little Leagues in Merton, the Labour-led Council have reneged on their promise to continue to offer free pitches and changing rooms for all four leagues that play in the borough.
During that time volunteers have helped tens of thousands of children play football at no cost, enabling all children, and especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds to play organised sport.
Leading the charge to get the Council to re-introduce free pitches is Cllr. David Dean, who said "Merton Conservatives strongly oppose this shameful Labour policy. Little Leagues offer youngsters more than just the opportunity to play football; it delivers fitness, fun and competition, but most importantly it creates a community."
